Merry Christmas 2020 Happy New Year

Here we are again, facing the end of another year. I doubt there will be many tears shed when we say goodbye to 2020.

The Weekly Prompt

I’m finishing the year off having a go at the excellent weekly prompt challenge which this week, happens to be a subject close to my heart. The prompt is ‘art’ and I think it is a great way to end this year of never-ending lockdowns and restrictions. Right, that’s the last time I’m going to mention anything to do with the ‘V’ word. Back to the weekly prompt and I’ve always enjoyed art, looking at it, reading about it and actually taking part in it.

Portraiture

My favourite subject is portraiture. Over the years, I’ve drawn many hundreds of faces, usually with a pencil or charcoal. I have painted a few, but I never really got on with the medium. I did make a post about the many portraits I have drawn last year and I’ll add a link to the page later if I remember. One problem I have with any drawing I complete is the feeling of insecurity when I have finished. I give a once over and think to myself, ‘well, that’s not really very good.’ Others are usually very complimentary of my work and although I don’t take commissions, I have done the odd one or two drawings for friends and family. I have to admit that I get a thrill thinking someone has taken one of my drawings, framed it and have it hanging on their wall.

Another Year Over

So another page of this blog comes to an end. If only people knew how I slogged and cajoled myself to get these words down, this is me looking for praise again. I know it’s the same for all of us bloggers so now I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It can’t be any worse than this year, can it? The Christmas card that I’ve posted is made up from a photograph I took of my Grandson when we were on holiday in 2016. Through the magic of Photoshop, I added the cat, moon, Father Christmas and made the photo look as though it was night time. Stay safe everyone and wear a mask when you venture out.

You can see my post about drawing here.

  1. That’s a lovely card, Trev and from what I’ve seen, your faces are brilliant. I’ve been teaching myself to draw faces because I always wanted to be able to. It’s a bit late and I’ll never be a patch on you but at least you can see it’s vaguely human now! Best wishes to you for Christmas and the New Year! XX

  2. Hello, Trevor! Quote: “One problem I have with any drawing I complete is the feeling of insecurity when I have finished.” Just so you know, we ALL suffer from “imposter syndrome,” that feeling that we aren’t as good as those we admire. You ARE good enough, you are witty enough, and I must say, you have a good eye for portraits! Peace, my friend, and Merry Christmas to you and your family!

  3. Keep drawing, painting, writing — but only when the spirit moves you. It should be fun, right? Meantime, a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and your loved ones.

  4. I do understand the feeling that what you create is not good enough but if you get pleasure out of it that surely is the point. If all you ever do is enjoy the process and then stick the finished painting in a drawer or even paint over them you have had fun and hurt nobody so that has to be good. I hope you have a good Christmas and I think we are all hoping that life eases next year!

    1. Thank you. I think it’s an insecure thing which seems to beset many creative types. Thank you for your best wishes and Merry Christmas to you and yours too. ????????????

  5. A magical card indeed. Happy Christmas. I share your hope that 2021 will be kinder to us. It is hard to write at the moment but more of a pleasure when we finally press ‘Post’.

  6. It’s great having the opportunity to converse on wordpress. A lot of people press ‘like’ but do not comment. I sympathise with your situation as hubby was made redundant at some stage and it had a severe effect on him. It is horrible being unwanted. Still, we are grateful to have each other during this dreadful time, although there is covid in the branch of the family that lives in London. Only two for Christmas dinner this year!

  7. I’d love to see some of your other portraiture, Trev. I’m not sure if you’d be comfortable putting them up on your blog but I’m sure everyone would be interested. I’ve never had much talent for drawing, no matter how much I wish I did.

You’re right, no tears shed at seeing 2020 disappear. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed this virus is in the rearview mirror before June 2021 so we can enjoy the second half of the year!

Merry Christmas to you & your family ???? Stay safe & have the best time you possibly can, all things considered. Best wishes ????

    Caz xx

    1. Thank you, Caz. I will have to have a look if I can find a way of putting them somewhere online so I can show them. Merry Christmas and likewise, I hope you manage a good time. Stay safe. ????

  8. That card is really something! Quite lovely. And yes on the slog. And double yes on “art”. All the best for this new year and lights at ends of tunnels and all other relevant cheery cliches.

I'd love to hear from you
