A Secret Hideaway

A Secret Hideout

A Secret Hideout

When I saw today’s Daily Prompt was Hideout I was immediately reminded of my favourite dream home. A secret hideout stems from my imagination when I was a young boy. I always imagined living in a cave, near to the coast and where the weather’s always warm.

I don’t mean a hole in the cliff-side either.  I’m talking about a fully furnished residence complete with kitchen and sleeping accommodation. A secret hideout with everything I need to live a life of peace. That means no television, no radio, but, I would like an internet connection just to keep in contact with the outside world.

I don’t want solitude, I’d welcome friends and guests, but they would have to be content with the simple things. Books, music through a CD player and simple food. That would be my secret hideout. No cars, just the sound of nature, the wind and the sea. A simple open fire stove for cooking.

How many people could live like that? Leonard Cohen had a secret hideout on a Greek island. It was simple, a table and chair and a keyboard to write songs. He had a small stove to cook on. It was his hideout, somewhere to hide out when he needed his batteries recharging.

People may ask, what would you do all day? My answer would be, ‘to do whatever I wanted.’ Sit on my bottom, go for a long walk, read a book, draw, an endless list. And it’s what I want to do, not anyone else. I think they call that freedom. Away from politics, sport and any other stuff, the media wants to throw at me.

I’ve had this dream for so many years. That’s probably how it will remain, like a dream. You got to have a dream…….. as the song goes. Yes, I was pleased when I saw today’s prompt was hideout. Right, I’m off now to search for a secret hideaway.

  1. I enjoyed your article, and thanks for reading mine. I’ve recently published a book you can check out on my blog if you like. I’m just starting out, and have created a Facebook link as well. Love to have you as a friend.

  2. When I retired I moved near the ocean and bought a folding beach tent. I spend the day on a quiet beach, total privacy, out of the wind, I have my books, music, and a cooler with food and drink for the day. And a perfect view of the waves from my chair. Much cheaper and easier than fixing up a cave!
Glad that you’re blogging again, we missed you!

  3. I just wanted to also mention that every time I leave a comment and click, “post comment,” I get a note that says: “sillyoldsod didn’t send any data.” So I’m not sure if my comments are getting through!

I'd love to hear from you
