We have a very busy Postman at the moment. It’s nothing to do with Christmas either.
Letters
The main reason seems to be our politicians. They are sending out letter after letter trying to coax us as to why we should vote for that particular candidate. Yes, there’s a general election coming up in the next few days here in the U.K. Living in Wales, we get two copies of the same letter, albeit in one envelope, one in English and the other in Welsh. They may as well be in Mandarin Chinese for all I care, as they go straight into the recycling bin.
Paperless
I do vote, but I like to listen through media interviews with the candidates to help make my mind up. No letter or flyer is going to swing my decision. Anyway, back to the poor postman. We live in a very rural area of Wales with a 2 1/2 mile walk from the end of the road to our front door. Apart from the occasional bill, the letters we receive are few and far between. In fact, I think most of our communications now are through social media or email, up until the past couple of weeks.
A Speck of Dust
I’m beginning to feel like a pop star who gets fan mail, there’s so much of it! Having lived here for just over two years, I still have no idea who my local representative is in Parliament. I’ve never heard anyone mention them, there’s never been any contact and I have no idea which party is in power here. Even after twenty tons of recyclable post in the past ten days or so, I still don’t know who represents us in the House of Commons. We seem to be a little speck of dust in the political scheme of things, until now.
Politicians!!
Politicians, budding politicians, wannabee career politicians, Shysters and Charlatans are all sending letters. Most of the envelopes are clearly marked showing who they’re from. ‘Urgent…… You Must Read This!!’ in bold red letters. ‘Important information from The Conservative Party!’ Even ‘You Don’t Know Me, But You Must Read This!’ It all goes on and on, day after day and it all goes in the bin. Why do we never see or hear these people until they want something such as our vote?
Poor Postman
So, our Postman, who we rarely see has turned into one of our most regular visitors. The Christmas mail is just starting to build, so he’s going to have his work cut out over the next few weeks. I can’t wait until the 12th of December when all the wasted post will stop. Do I sound like I’m having a moan? Well, I suppose I am, I haven’t got too much time for our politicians at the moment. I remember the old days when all parties would debate why they were the best, unlike now when they just throw metaphorical bricks at each other without saying what their policies are. I do wonder how a Government that have cutback for years through Austerity, now promise the earth. As I said earlier, Shysters.
If anyone is slightly interested in the UK General Election in December 2019
Nice post!
Thank you, skwctgme 😉
????????????
Thank you, Luisa. 😉
I see that politicians are the same in every country… 🙂
Indeed they are, all shysters and out for what they can get. Thank you.
We just get phone calls, and emails here in the states.
Hahaha but poor postman I pity him running about.
Yes, he will be worn out by Christmas. Thank you for commenting.
O postman pat and his black & white cat! Living in Southend-on-Sea during the mid eighties I saw and loved it, was a good time for me, maybe not for everyone there, I also remember … where has time gone, so fast …???
Yes, Postman Pat. I used to watch it with my children. 🙂 The time does fly by especially as we get older. Thank you.
So spot on! I’m fed up of the disappointment every morning now when you see the post van, you track the postie making his way towards the house (in shorts, no less, despite the bitter cold), you hear the letterbox – hurrah! – and excitedly look down to find bloody ‘vote lib dem/labour/conservative’ letters! And every recycling bin in every household up and down the country just gets that little bit heavier…
Wow, 2.5miles from the end of the road to your front door? That’s one heck of a long road.
You’ve explained it better than me, Caz. It is a disappointment. 🙂 Yes, it’s quite a jaunt and people must think no one would live this far out in the country, but there’s quite a few of us do.
Only too right to have a moan about all the paper needing to go straight into waste.
I agree. They’re the ones who are pushing for a greener, paperless society and then they do this without a care in the world. Thank you.
I’m interested and I totally agree with you, my recycling bin has never been as full!
The problem is even after the General Election it still won’t be over, nothing else matters to them but Brexit.
Thank you, Sue. I know, it seems an eternal circle. This is one time when I am pleased I’m not so young anymore. I do worry about the future for them. Enough of me being pessimistic, I must get back to the lighter side of life. 🙂
Post- nearly a thing of the past, isn’t it? except for leaflets
I thought it was a thing of the past, but obviously not when there’s a general election. Thank you. ????
Political letters are excellent fire starters for the fireplace. ????
Good idea, I could shred them, thank you.
