Gargoyle

Here’s a photograph of myself with a Gargoyle. It was taken recently in the delightful Shropshire town of Ludlow. We visited as I had to take the wife to see a dentist.

Ludlow

I like Ludlow, it’s one of those places that gives me the feel-good factor. It was raining and cold when we visited, but it still felt good to be there. As for its history, I have to admit complete ignorance except to say that there is a castle, so it must go back some way. Gargoyles too. They seem to be all over the place, front of the house, up in the apex of the roofs and lower down on walls.

I Look Like A Gargoyle

When we got out of the car, the wife noticed a gargoyle that was quite low on the wall. More or less the same height as me. She said, “Ooh, look. I think they modelled this gargoyle on you.” I know, I know and I’m thinking I was more like George Clooney! So, to show the world how similar this concrete mush and I looked, she took my photograph next to it.

What Can I Say?

What can I say? There’s definitely a similarity. No one ever asks me to pose next to a Robert Redford poster or a sign advertising Tom Jones’ next record. Never, but a 16th-century weather-worn concrete face with the looks of your 102-year-old great Grandfather chewing a pickled onion without his teeth, “…he looks like you!” I still love Ludlow though. If you ever get to visit the town, see if you can find a gargoyle that looks like you. I’d love to see the results. Come to think of it, if you see a gargoyle anywhere in the world and it looks like you, I’d still love to see the results. Have fun.
