By May Her Majesty the Queen rest in peace. I’m sure most people feel the same as I do at this moment, like losing your favourite Grandmother. Certainly, in my lifetime I have never known anyone other than Her Majesty being in charge. Always there, no matter what problems the country woke up to, the Queen was always there.
Dignity
In this day and age where so many countries are led by vile megalomaniacs, liars and cheats, we have always had the Queen, dignified, understanding and sympathetic. I will certainly miss her. Just to put the length of her reign into perspective, she was Queen for around four years before John Lennon and Paul McCartney first met! What a great achievement, 70 years as head of our nation.
Photograph
The photograph I have used is one of my few treasured memories. It is the Queen when she was still Princess Elizabeth in 1948. The other lady in the picture is my Mother. It was a press photograph taken somewhere in Coventry and my Mother was in attendance as a part of the Territorial Army. No one knew at the time that she would be Queen in just a few years’ time and also, she was pregnant with the now King.

It’s been such a sad day and certainly one of those that the younger generation will always remember where and what they were doing at the time. Condolences to her children and Grandchildren. May Her Majesty rest in peace.

Although I have been in the USA most of my life, I have always been English at heart and as you say, the Queen was there, always. I am thinking a lot about King Charles. We are the same age, he and I. I can’t imagine being always aware that your mother’s passing would be so much more than losing a parent. I feel for him.
