Independence Day

I promised in my last post on here that I would try and find some video of Debbie and me playing the guitar. Well, this version of Independence Day, is a song written and sung by American singer-songwriter, Gretchen Peters. I hope we have done it justice. It was put together in our living room, with no fancy recording equipment, just the two of us and my trusty old video camera.

Big Bill Broonzy

The other clip I have found is just me, a good few years ago now, singing (which is very rare and I’m sure you can see why) a Big Bill Broonzy song called ‘Hey Hey.’ Big Bill is my hero, I must have heard him play on the radio when I was young and it was a song called ‘Guitar Shuffle.’ It made me shiver all over and from that moment on, I could never get enough of Big Bill to the point that I learned to play a lot of his songs on guitar.

Gretchen

We’ve seen Gretchen Peters perform a few times and she is due to embark on another U.K. tour very soon. It was Debbie who first heard her songs when the great Sir Terry Wogan championed her back in the day. We have tickets to go and see her, but they are from pre-covid days, so we will have to wait until next year to have them honoured.

Apologies

Well, I hope I haven’t inflicted too much pain on you with our performances and we both thank everyone for their interest and wanting to see a small selection of what we sometimes play at open mics. We are due to play at our local church service next Sunday, so we’re busily rehearsing a couple of songs that are both suitable and relatively easy to play for such a discerning audience.

Apologies for the cover photo, it was taken around 1980 when I was playing the bass guitar.

If you would like to hear more about Gretchen Peters, she has a website here.

If you’d like more information about Big Bill, here’s a good website.

  1. I loved this! The two of you could be playing clubs (must be great fun playing together) and Trev, I particularly love your bluesy guitar.

    1. Thank you, Derrick, sorry about the Big Bill video. Glad to hear you’re a fan. He certainly was a rare musical talent. 😊

  2. Thanks for the video clips. Nothing tops music and song to lift our spirits and bring us closer together. Have fun at your next event πŸ˜€

I'd love to hear from you
