Just a quick note

Just A Quick Note

This is supposed to be just a quick note, honestly. I dropped what can only be described as a ‘clanger.’ I updated this blog and thought to myself ‘what a great job I have done.’ Ok, enough trumpet blowing! Then I noticed that there were very few people taking an interest and I thought where has everyone gone?

Was It Google?

Was it a Google thing, suddenly thrown to the bottom of the digital pile so no one ever gets to see this blog again. I couldn’t find any evidence of that and I have to add that I’m not one of these techy types who knows the inside out of Google workings. I have been taken by surprise though by how quiet everything had gone in WordPress world.

Sussed It

After a few hours of trawling the internet and searching for phrases like ‘Where have my followers gone?’ I found an article that asked if I had updated my blog recently. Well, yes, that’s me. It went on to say I should check my ‘Users’ and see if I had linked the subscribers list back into the new update blog. Easy, are you bored yet?

Welcome Back

Anyway, a quick delve into the workings of WordPress using Jetpack and bingo! There were all the subscribers to ‘Silly Old Sod’, all safely stored and waiting to be linked back up to my recent updated blog. Yay, welcome back everyone, I missed you all and for a brief moment thought that you had gone forever. Phew!

    1. Yes, I have often thought about getting rid of it, but it can up Trumps on this. It is over bloated, but once in a blue moon it does something good. Thank you GP 😊

    1. OK, I generally only scan the comment section, but your blog name really stopped me dead. LoL. Now I’m intrigued. :pops over to see:

        1. That comment was to Bitchy After 60. 🙂 But the same applied, years ago, to your blog. Exact same thing, I think. I briefly scanned some random comments “elsewhere” and say “Silly Old Sod” and was intrigued. I guess you can tell a lot by a title (book by a cover?) because I read both blogs and wound up subscribing to both on the same day of discovery. 🙂

  1. Oh wow. Who knew? I don’t know how drastically your revamp was, but over the 11+ years I’ve been on WordPress, I’ve rearranged the furniture a few times. I just assume reader falloff is normal, or someone’s gotten annoyed that I posted about politics or dissed their favorite brand of coffee! 🙂 Glad you sussed the problem and also that you posted about it. PSA.

    1. Thank you, that’s what I thought, people were just fed up and moved on to more interesting blogs. Thankfully, I was wrong, so I am so pleased to have everyone back. Thankfully you 😊

  2. Who are you?…………….Only joking! However, I have a problem with your site. I can comment via Reader, but there is no option to comment from the main blog site. Not an issue for me, but it may be for others.

  3. I’m still here! Try to do a daily post, that keeps your followers coming back. I update two to three times per day… Maybe a bit much but I enjoy it!

  4. Aha, here’s the comment section. I finally found it by clicking the comment block on the email I got.
I too have thought about jettisoning JetPack. But I’m not sure what I’d lose if I did so. Anyway, I like your makeover.

  5. I, too, couldn’t comment from the post but used the comments button in reader. WordPress is not very user friendly! Is that why so many people are shiftoing to Substack (which I have never tried to use as a write)?

    1. Thank you, it seems to have gone a long way from being user friendly. It certainly keeps us on our toes. 😊
