Nirvana

I was sitting on my bench in the garden this morning, just me and my couple of bellies when I had a ‘Nirvana’ moment. The sun was shining and although there was a bit of a cool breeze, everything was just lovely. It’s quite rural around these parts, it’s just over 2 miles to the end of the road and there is the occasional traffic that passes through, but not too often. I had just finished a mug of tea, the first of many of the day when the sound of silence suddenly hit me.

Lucky

Immediately, I was thinking just how lucky am I. Sat here in paradise wanting for nothing at all. The morning had started with me perusing the usual social media haunts, especially Facebook and Instagram. I don’t know why I do it, the negativity and downright nastiness, not from everybody, but from a lot of people leaves me drained and upset at times. So fresh air and a mug of tea were required.

Just Wonderful

The stillness was just beautiful. Then the sound of birdsong, a huge variety of tweets and whistles, Swallows, House Martins and a few Red Kites flying overhead. The colours of the flowers in full bloom are so gorgeous. I could be anywhere in the world, but I am home and there’s no better feeling. All the earlier aggression and negativity were gone and the feeling of happiness was in control.

Heaven

I can’t remember a time when I sat down and felt so at peace with everything. I’ve heard about it happening to others on many occasions, but never to me. The only way I can describe it is it must be the closest thing to heaven that anyone can feel. Well, I hope that’s how heaven feels when I have to check-in.

Lunching

The rest of the day was as lovely as the morning up until the clouds moved in around 6:00 pm. We even ate lunch in the garden, I had cockles with bread and butter and my wife had a salad sandwich all washed down with another mug of tea. After a little bit of tidying up with the strimmer, I went back to my bench and sat there until the rain moved me on. At times, Debbie joined me and we both talked about how fortunate we are to be living this life.

Wonderful

There’s something about being in and with nature and sitting with Mother Earth that is unlike any feeling I have ever experienced. A warm sun, blue skies, flowers with beautiful colours and the birds and bees all combine to make paradise. As Louis Armstrong sang, ‘What A Wonderful World.’

I always put a link at the end of my posts, but I wasn’t sure this time what I could post. So here’s a link to a website called Gardens of Heaven.

That sounds a magical day Trev! Did you know that in Japan you can be prescribed ‘Forest Bathing’? A walk in the forest because of all the health benefits it brings and gardening, getting your hands in the earth is good for you too. Like you I live where there is hardly any noise from the man made world – just the wind int he leaves, the muttering of the stream and birdsong. It does me good too.

Thank you. I have never heard of ‘Forest Bathing.’ It sounds excellent. I’m glad you’re feeling the benefits too. 😊

How true your post rings with me, such a heaven you describe. It is rather like the place I am now. All is nature around. The peace and the sounds from trees, birds, bees and other rustling little beings…….and so to dream , and so to be. Thanks for this dreamy and yet real post.

You’re so right Trev about Nature and silence. I love standing with the sun on my face, listening to wind in the trees as well as birdsong. And I am also very fortunate to be living in a place where I can enjoy it. Even on overcast days, like today, there is always something to lift the heart. I think of the billions who are not so fortunate, who I cannot help and it makes me enjoy what I have all the more. It would be a crime not to, I think. So glad you have a slice of heaven.

    What a wonderfully happy post.

I’ve been in my spot for forty six years and not a day goes by that I’m not thankful for all I see and hear around me.
You and I, and Debbie of course are the lucky ones – we’re so fortunate to live where we live and to acknowledge and appreciate all that we have.

The picture of you smiling on your bench is very warming. I think we realize only too rarely how lucky we are to be on this planet in the first place.
I remember a quote from the novel “The Idiot” by Dostoevskij, where the protagonist said something like: “how can you see a tree and not be happy to see it?”.
    Have a nice Sunday.

Lovely. We’re similarly rural, locals, farm traffic and lost tourists only. I sit on my bench watching our currently resident swallows feeding acrobatically, then swooping into the garage where there’s a number of active nests in the rafters. Sadly not long until I’ll be in there cleaning up after them, dirty buggers – they don’t even leave me a tip…

    • Trev
      August 8, 2022

Thank you, Bear. We have House Martins and although their nest is on the outside wall of the house, they do leave an awful mess on the path below. It’s still nice to see them arrive every May, a sign that summer is on its way too. 😊
