Box Of Dinosaurs

My birthday happened earlier this week and I’m now a year closer to whatever than I was a year ago.

When I’m 64

With things the way they are and no one going anywhere due to the horrible virus, I was fortunate that our friends in the village together with my lovely wife managed to arrange a lovely, socially distanced meal in a nearby restaurant. There was even a rendition or three of ‘The Beatles When I’m Sixty Four.’ It was truly lovely and I am blessed and thankful to live here among both beautiful scenery and people. However, this wasn’t the highlight of my birthday as there was more to come.

The Postman Delivers

The following day, the postman delivered a small parcel with a note attached. A little late for my birthday, but I didn’t mind, a present is a present. I opened the note first, which was really a birthday card and immediately I could see the writing was that of my Granddaughter. It always brings a lump to my throat whenever I see a carefully handwritten piece from her. You know it’s personal and she will have taken time putting her thoughts into words for her and her younger brother, although he added his own signature and kisses.

Do It Yourself

Opening the package, it was a box of five plaster of Paris Dinosaurs, but, you have to make and paint them yourself. The little note had explained that the Grandchildren want the Dinosaurs and thought it would make a lovely present for me if I could make them, paint them and when they can visit again (they’ll probably be grown up and married with kids of their own when it happens) collect them to take home. Are you crying yet?

Great Aplomb

So, with great aplomb, (I always wanted to use this word), I set out to make and paint these six Dinosaurs. Following the instructions, I mixed the plaster of Paris and added it to the mould. After leaving it set for about an hour, I popped them out and they were perfect. I left them overnight, just to make sure the plaster was set before making a start on painting them. I followed the colours that were on the instructions although they said you could make your own choices. It took most of the morning to paint them. It didn’t take long to dry and the next step was to fit the magnetic strips to the back of them so they can be used as fridge magnets.

Job Well Done

Well, I can say I was pleased with myself, a job well done. Wednesday evening we Facetimed both daughters as the youngest daughter was also celebrating her birthday. I am pleased to say the Grandchildren were very pleased that I’d put them together. Moreso the Grandaughter as the Grandson seemed a little pre-occupied what was going on with Thomas The Tank. Although I won’t be rushing out to buy another box of dinosaurs, I can say that this was a great present and something we can all enjoy, no matter how old we are, or how young for that matter. Well done to my Grandkids for coming up with this idea. I said I was truly blessed earlier on and I know for certain now that I am.

  1. Happy belated birthday. What a wonderful original idea. I was watching Jurassic park on channel 4 last week, where the dinosaurs arrived in our part of the world at the end. They showed the baby dinosaurs – so sweet.

    1. Muchas felicidades. Y reitero lo que opina jenanita01. El nombre de tu blog está totalmente equivocado. Un saludo y felicidad para este nuevo año y para los que están por venir.

  2. Happy Birthday Trev. Sounds like a wonderful day. You’ve hit the jackpot with your gorgeous grandchildren. How spoiled you are, as you deserve.
and… a great reminder that ‘All We Need is Love” and not just “when we’re 64”

  3. Wow!???? Wow! ????OM Gosh! You painted them with “glow-in-the dark” paint. ????What more could you ask for? ????????Your grandchildren know exactly what you wanted for your birthday!!!! ????

  4. I love when my granddaughter writes me a handwritten note. Aplomb is a great word and now I am going to have to use it. I don’t suppose any of your grandchildren are named Vera, Chuck, or Dave, though?

    1. Haha, thanks, Herb. 10 out of 10 for the names from the song. No, none of my Grandkids with those names. Glad you like ‘aplomb’ it is a great word. ????

  5. So glad I stopped by, Trev! Belated happy birthday- I know it was!- and what a superb thoughtful present. Our grandson is a dinosaur lover too. You’ve got me thinking 🙂 🙂
