New Bed

Brand New Tossing & Turning Machine

Sleep has been something that has been lacking in my life lately. I don’t mean like I haven’t slept for months on end, total insomnia, but more snoozing, waking up in the night and tossing and turning sort of thing. Basically, unable to get a good night’s sleep.

Brand New Bed

So it was, we decided to order a brand new bed and today, after what seemed a lifetime, it arrived, ready to replace the old one. All we have to do now is clear out the drawers of the old one, get it moved out and put the new one in. I haven’t looked yet, but I bet there’s a fair amount of items in those drawers!

Keep It Local

We’ve had to wait a couple of months for the bed to arrive as we decided to go local and order it from a small business rather than one of the bed and furniture stores in the local town across the other side of the universe. I know we would have probably had it delivered within a couple of days if we had gone to a megastore, but it’s always nice to support local, that’s what we say.

I Have No Memory

Enough of the ‘good deed’ of the day stuff, I have work to do in dismantling the old bed, moving it out and assembling the new one. I don’t know about a ‘memory’ mattress, I think every mattress has a mind of its own. They seem designed to go where they want to go when you’re moving them. Of course, the language can be a little choice, to say the least trying to coax one up the stairs and round the corner.

Conspiracy?

I firmly believe that architects, builders and furniture makers get together when they design a house. They make ceilings slope at the point where you need to get a mattress or wardrobe under and you need at least 6 people, one of whom must be a contortionist to manoeuvre anything to get through. I bet they have a meeting and say things like, ‘Someone will have a real problem getting a wardrobe in there’ or ‘I wish I could be there when they move the mattress into the bedroom!’

Goodnight From Me…

Well, tonight’s the last night for the old bed, it has served us well and moved with us from Birmingham to Wales. I’m sure the new one will serve us just as well. For now, though, I will sleep on it for tonight, did you see what I did there? That’s it, I’m off to bed. Goodnight.

Here’s a good website for tips on a good night’s sleep.

  1. Buenas noches . Qué duermas como los ángeles y que tengas bonitos sueños.
Encantador post. Lo más bonito son las cosas simples, esas capacad de hacernos la vida agradable. Suerte con el colchón.

  2. I hope you can get a good night’s rest now, Trev! Sleep is so important and keeps humans sane. I too prefer to buy locally, always support your local businesses. 👍🏻😊

  3. We had new beds and mattresses recently. My mattress was not to my liking and, since it had an amazing 1 year trial period, I ordered a replacement, and today the old (new) one was collected for a full refund. When I think how long my parents had their old feather mattress for I wonder if they just tolerated it or if things really were of superior quality and made to last. Sweet dreams Trev!

  4. Oh dear, Trev, I hope you haven’t strained yourself moving beds about. Furniture moving is a dangerous pastime! But I hope the new bed helps you get a good night’s sleep. Sometimes new mattresses take getting used to. It’s nice that you ordered from a local shop. I am a great believer in supporting the “little”folk.

  5. Don’t forget to turn and rotate your mattress regularly. We can no longer turn ours and it takes both of us to rotate it on the bed. There are more than a few choice words then!!

  6. 1) I envy you the new mattress. Mine is V-shaped, and with a possible big move in my future, it isn’t worth replacing at this point, and so, 2) I can really sympathize with the “not total insomnia but not great sleep, either” problem. And 3), you probably already know this, but don’t be overly worried if the new mattress doesn’t “fix it” immediately. In fact, it may get worse and then it’ll get better, because you may have to acclimate to the new mattress and how it feels. I laughed aloud as I read your theory about designers getting together to plot how to make the “simplest” of tasks monumental, complete with loud expletives.

  7. Love that you support local businesses. Thank goodness I have sons who are more than capable of moving heavy and cumbersome furniture! Here’s to many good nights of sleep on the new mattress 😀

  8. I upgraded my 20 year old bed to one with drawers that work and a memory foam mattress, but I did it with a big store (I’m going to hell) and got a lot of money off (God loves those who help themselves?) It’s much, much more comfortable than springs digging in your ribs. I never noticed it until I got sick and started feeling like Princess and The Pea. I had to begrudgingly pay for delivery guys to get it upstairs and sorted out otherwise I’d still be here two years later trying to get it up the stairs 😆 You’re right, houses really aren’t designed for getting any furniture in or out!

I hope your new bed serves you well and that you can start to get some better, more peaceful sleeps. Sweet Dreams!

    1. Thank you, Caz. I tried a memory mattress once but couldn’t get on with it. I did enjoy my first night of sleep in this new bed though. It must have been good, I didn’t want to get up. 😊

  9. How’s the new bed? I hope it allows you to sleep better
However, I have to tell you that, unfortunately, I also don’t sleep well at night and I keep waking up (have we caught the same contagious disease?)😉

    1. Thank you, Luisa. It’s horrible that you can’t get sleep very well. I always put my bad sleep down to years of working different shifts which altered my body clock for good. I hope you do find some peace and decent rest. Thank you again, Luisa. 🙂

I'd love to hear from you
