When Magic Goes Wrong

I’ve been practising my magic again, but unfortunately, it all went wrong, much to the annoyance of my wife!

Telekinesis

A word of warning, don’t try this trick at home unless you are experienced with levitation. If you do decide to try it, make sure you do it with plastic mugs and beakers. The kind of thing they use for picnic sets. At the very least, nothing will get broken. I believe the proper name for this skulduggery is ‘Telekinesis’ also known as ‘Psychokinesis.’ Big words which mean moving inanimate objects with nothing more than the power of the mind.

I Can Do It

It must be at least 4 or 5 years since I first started having a go at this kind of thing. In the beginning, I used a rubber ball and moved it around the table. Really simple, look at it for a few moments and will the thing to roll about. Simple isn’t it? I tried peeling an orange, but that never worked. From the small ball, I moved onto bigger, heavier things, the wife’s handbag, clocks, metal ornaments, almost anything that wouldn’t break if I failed.

Easy

It all came easy to me and was a great party piece that friends and family always found fun. Even the Grandchildren were never frightened by me moving things about on the table with nothing more than my mind. So last week, we had visitors that called in for afternoon tea. As always, out came the best china tea service. I sat looking at it for a couple of hours, wanting to try and lift it, but resisting all thoughts. Well, until I was left on my own for five minutes and the temptation was too much.

What Goes Up…

The overwhelming urge to try and lift this set, not just the milk jug or a teacup, but the whole lot in one go was far too powerful for me to ignore. I just had to try it! As you can see, I even set the camera up so this magic moment would be recorded forever. I began to muster all the mental power I could find and the whole service began trembling. Then, up it went, slowly but surely, the whole shebang!! Magic….. it was finally happening……. spoons, cups, saucers, jugs……. and then crashed down twice as fast as it went up! Time for me to hide, big trouble was looming.

I must add, none of this story is true, but I hope you enjoyed it.

And there I was sitting at the breakfast table staring at my mug of tea, which didn’t move. Was I doing something wrong? It was then that I read the last sentence.

Your comment ”None of this is true” made me laugh, the assumption being some of us may have believed you! The magic, however, is in your brilliant film making skills! Hilarious and so clever!

You had me going for a minute! Years ago I was with a group of people who taught me how to do levitation, but it involved 5 people, four to lift and one to be lifted. The liftee sat on a chair while the lifters went to each corner and inserted their two index fingers beneath the liftee’s legs, and tried to lift…which they couldn’t. Then the lifters were told to be totally silent, clear the mind and place hands over the liftee’s head, one at a time, so me, you, next, next then again, me, you, etc, till all hands were above the head, but not touching. Hold for a moment and then lift hands off, one at a time in reverse order, immediately place index fingers beneath the liftee and up they go. Did it numerous times and you have to be careful not to bump the liftee’s head on a low ceiling!
I also tried bending metal spoons once with some success but I was never sure if it wasn’t just soft metal.
Lots of funny stuff can happen in this world!

Thank you, Yeti. That sounds interesting. I dare say in another couple of hundred years or so, if the world is still here, this kind of thing might be normal. Who knows?
